Vicki sampled this at a recent friend’s birthday dinner. It was perfect for the occasion and matched the fish starter without overpowering it. It’s not a rich or overtly fruity wine; it’s understated and citrussy, with a savoury element that adds interest. An excuse wasn’t really needed, but in any case, we bought some immediately for the website!
A delicate white wine from Gavi di Gavi in North West Italy. This is made from the local variety; Cortese, and the grapes are grown in the single vineyard named ‘Lugarara’. This vineyard is owned by the La Giustiniana estate, where winemaker Cristian Pomo makes the wines alongside wine consultant Donato Lanati. It has classic lemon fruit character and refreshing acidity plus a gentle creamy character and refined finish. With modest alcohol of 13%, it is mainly about citrus flavour and elegance rather than full-on fruit or alcohol. It’s a great match for pasta or chicken with creamy sauces, and seafood dishes too.
