Description

A delicious, fresh, full-flavoured and zesty white wine from one of Sicily’s flagship grapes, Grillo, and the province of Trapani. This is the grape that locals drink in copious quantities with good seafood!

In 1880 Paolo Pellegrino founded a winery in Marsala city, on Sicily’s west coast. Now, Pellegrino have 3 solar-powered wineries in Sicily, with a great range of dry whites alongside fortified Marsala. The grape for this white wine is Grillo, which is the grape of Marsala. It was traditionally used for the fortified wines but these days is often fermented as a dry still wine, as here, on the Gazzerotta vineyard in Trapani, in the northwest of Sicily, on the coast. Grillo makes zesty whites, usually unoaked, with floral notes and hints of peach and hazelnut, all of which you find in this fresh, full-bodied white. You’ll also see a reference on the label to ‘Superiore’, which generally means better quality, and specifically extra ripeness in the grapes; it’s dry and crisp but has a little richness which means a lovely character and long finish. Drink now till Spring 2027. 14% alcohol.
