Description
This is a delicious, special Reserva from the legendary Lopez de Heredia estate in the Rioja Alta region of Spain. With a cult following, it’s extremely elegant with a fine texture; the emphasis is on the complex, lingering but fresh finish that belies the fact it is already a significantly aged wine of 14 years; longevity is the estate’s trademark!
TASTING NOTE: A ruby colour in the glass, with a hint of garnet pointing to its age. On the nose: Expressive with notes of red and black fruits, such as raspberry and plum, mingling with tertiary/mature notes of leather, earth, and mixed spices. On the palate: Fresh and medium-bodied, it’s not an oaky nor heavy wine, and it’s delicate, with a long finish, integrated tannins and almost endless layers of flavour that are revealed continually as the wine mellows. 13% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This wine is a great match with red meats or grilled vegetable dishes, as well as some earthier/denser-textured fish dishes. Try alongside a perfectly grilled dry aged steak, with roast potatoes, green beans, and warm jus. This wine is at its best once decanted for an hour before serving. It’s mature and ready to drink now but is still fresh with some primary fruit character, and you can keep it till 2028-2029.
