A delightfully refreshing Rose made from the red Negroamaro grape in Puglia. The Tormaresca estate that made this wine is owned by the Antinori family of Tignanello and Guado al Tasso fame, who then branched out into southern Italy, buying vineyards on the Adriatic coast. The wine has a little more colour and depth of flavour than a Provence Rose, with moreish strawberry and cherry fruit character, medium to full body and a long, lingering, red berry finish. It’s a midway between light, crisp Roses and full, punchier alcohol styles. The result is a delicious, fascinating Rose that is perfect for spring, summer or autumn, either as an aperitif or with antipasti or fish dishes.
Tormaresca is based in Salento, in the province of Brindisi, close to the Adriatic sea. It’s a beautiful area of pine forests, olive groves, vineyards and the glistening Adriatic in the background. The name Calafuria is the name of one of the many bays dotted along the shoreline, and a perfect epithet for this cool, stylish Rose that is extremely easy to drink! 12% abv.
