Description

Whispering Angel Rose is made by Sacha Lichine and his team at Chateau d’Esclans, in La Motte en Provence, south France. It’s a blend of red grape varieties Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Carignan with the white grape Vermentino too. The grapes are pressed gently so that some of the colour from the red grape skins makes its way into the juice, giving a pretty pink colour and fresh red berry aromas. It’s a delicious rose and has been commercially successful too (so much so that Whispering Angel was recently acquired by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey), meaning that the estate need to supplement their own crop with grapes from other estates in Provence. The name derives from the cherubs painted on the roof of their chapel, said to be whispering to each other. There are quite a few different vineyard areas within the larger region of Provence that make this style of dry, delicate, pale pink and refreshing rose; this is ‘Cotes de Provence’ but you may see ‘Coteaux d’Aix en Provence’ amongst others on wine labels.

This French wine is a refreshing, dry, delicate rose which is pale pink in colour and has elegant notes of raspberries and strawberries. It’s not overstated or overly fruity, but still has lots of gentle red fruit flavour and crisp acidity to keep it fresh in the summer heat. Medium-bodied, moderate alcohol and a long juicy finish, it’s great to drink on a summer afternoon or as a match with white fish. 13% ABV.
