Description

This Australian white wine is made exclusively from the Pinot Gris grape, giving it a crisp, aromatic character. Delicate floral aromas and juicy pear notes make it a perfect match for lighter Asian dishes and fresh seafood. Produced by Yabby Lake, in Tuerong, just outside of Melbourne on Mornington Peninsula, it is extremely refreshing and juicy, not as heavy as Alsace Pinot Gris, and makes a great aperitif wine too.

TASTING NOTE: This wine is an attractive yellow in colour. On the nose: it shows fragrant floral notes alongside ripe pear and apple. It’s very clean, dry, fresh and fruity in style, and is extremely good. On the palate: lively, unoaked, medium-bodied, with an elegant, fresh, rounded finish. Moderate 12.5% alcohol, and delicious!

FOOD PAIRING, STORAGE AND SERVICE: With its bright, refreshing style, this wine pairs beautifully with seafood and lighter Asian dishes. A sushi platter is a natural choice, whether it’s salmon sashimi, a spicy tuna maki roll, or simply steamed edamame. For a plant-based option, try Vietnamese rice paper rolls filled with crisp, vegetable slaw and marinated tofu as the protein. Serve well chilled to 8-9 degrees. Drink now until end of 2027.

ABOUT: Founded in the mid-1990s by Mem and Robert Kirby, Yabby Lake is located in the north of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Today the vineyards are overseen by Viticulturist, Thomas Schulz who meticulously manages the vineyards, with hand pruning and handpicking taking place each season. Hugely respected Chief Winemaker and General Manager Tom Carson makes the Red Claw range from Yabby Lake’s own vineyards; the grapes are hand-harvested and hand-crafted in the cellar, making delicious fine wines.
