CURRENT SELECTION: Try a ripe, juicy Cotes du Rhone from Delas; this is lovely and peppery, and a perfect wine with grilled meats and heartier foods. Also from France, Domaine du Prieure’s red Burgundy. From the ‘Hautes Cotes’, the slopes above the town of Beaune, this is refreshing and midweight, a great wine as the temperatures start to warm. Then to Italy for Tenuta Olim Bauda’s cherry-scented Barbera d’Asti. The Italians say this is the ultimate food wine, pair it with a charcuterie or food board, or tomato-based dishes, pizza and pastas. From further afield, there is the refined, flavoursome Bordeaux Blend from Rustenberg in South Africa. Plus, another Bordeaux grape, the Merlot from Vina Echeverria in Chile. And lastly, Wirra Wirra’s hearty, complex Church block Cabernet blend, from McLaren Vale. This has some maturity and is really wonderful with casseroles, tagines or earthier dishes such as roast mushrooms or aubergine.
