CURRENT SELECTION: For the whites, try Tormaresca’s delicious white from Puglia. This is a lovely, unoaked Chardonnay, a perfect match for any seafoods, creamy pasta dishes or roast chicken. Then, from France, the apple-scented Vouvray from the Loire Valley, a fine, fruity white that is a super aperitif style, or match for pork dishes and mixed cheese platters. And, from nearby, Domaine du Haut Perron’s fresh, crisp Touraine Blanc, a great wine as the temperatures warm up. For the reds, try Tenuta Olim Bauda’s cherry-scented Barbera d’Asti. The Italians say this is the ultimate food wine, pair it with a charcuterie or food board, or tomato-based dishes, pizza and pastas. From further afield, there is Wirra Wirra’s hearty, complex Church block Cabernet blend, from McLaren Vale. This has some maturity and is really wonderful with casseroles, tagines or earthier dishes such as roast mushrooms or aubergine. Last but not least, it’s back to France for a juicy, elegant Beaujolais Villages from Andre Colonge. This is highly popular, likely due to its fruity, smooth nature and versatility. It works well in the warmer months and has enough flavour to match most foods, but not overpower them. Yum!
