Description
A perfectly priced Champagne, from Gaston Chiquet from the town of Epernay in the Valle de la Marne region. A blend of 40% Pinot Meunier, 35% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir that will not disappoint, full of all the best that champagne offers from a great producer.
TASTING NOTE: A beautiful golden yellow hue with fine mousse. On the nose: Lively and pure, with fresh citrus and a hint of dried apricot with a soft brioche note to finish. On the palate: It’s smooth, with a medium body and soft stone fruit flavour of peach and nectarine, as well as hints of juicy red and white currants. It has all the hallmarks of great Chardonnay used here, with a mouth-watering medium acidity all balanced with a dry finish and lingering notes of white peach. 12.5% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: For us this is a great aperitif (at a very good price given Champagne pricing these days, and given it is a Premier Cru). But some classic matches, French Langres cheese, or freshly shucked oysters with a few drops of lemon juice work perfectly. Also try next to a fillet of pan seared salmon or dover sole, with brown butter and capers. Lastly, Champagne is a great match for anything battered or fried, such as fried chicken or tempura vegatables, as the natural acidity offsets the fat in the dish. It’s best enjoyed chilled at a temperature of 8- 11 degrees. Ready to drink now and will continue to drink wonderfully into 2025.
ABOUT: The vines have been at the Chiquet property since 1746, but it wasn’t until the early 20th Century that brothers Fernand and Gaston Chiquet began to bottle their own production rather than selling the grapes to other houses. In 1935, Gaston started his own brand and at the beginning of the 1950s, he and his son Claude extended the family domaine into the areas of Aÿ and Hautvillers in the Valle de la Marne. Currently, Claude’s children, Antoine and Nicolas, and Marion Chiquet manage and craft the wines from the 23 hectares of sustainably grown grapes.
