Description

A very fine fizz from Ferrari, the century-old Sparkling estate in Trentodoc, Northeast Italy. The combination of a cool, mountain climate, the Chardonnay grape and its long ageing of 24 months on fermentation yeasts give this lovely wine a fruity, fresh and flavourful palate. There’s no relation to the famous Ferrari of Formula 1, but until recently, *this* Ferrari was the official Sparkling wine of F1 events. We’re just glad there is still some left for the rest of us, as this is absolutely delicious!

TASTING NOTE: A light straw yellow in colour, with lots of fine bubbles, threading their way to the top of the glass. There are enticingly fruity, fresh bread and almond aromas on the nose, followed by a succulent and fresh palate. Notes of tangerine, apple, brioche, pastry alongside more mineral and savoury notes to balance the fruitiness. It’s dry, moderate in alcohol at 12.5%, with a long, mouthwateringly juicy finish.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This Blanc de Blancs Sparkling makes for a fabulous celebration wine, and it’s also an excellent aperitif. But, it is slightly fuller than, say a Blanc de Blancs from Champagne, so Ferrari recommend it with food too, either buffalo mozzarella and green olives/salad to start, or a seafood dish such as octopus or squid, with taggiasca olives and pesto. If octopus isn’t on the menu (!), we suggest trying the wine alongside savoury tarts or risottos, or ravioli filled with cheese, butternut squash or aubergine.

ABOUT: Since 1902, Ferrari has made some of Italy’s finest traditional method (‘Metodo Classico’) sparkling wines in the Trentodoc appellation of Northeast Italy.  Founder Giulio Ferrari honed his craft in Champagne before returning to Trento in 1902. Here, he founded the winery and began making bottle-fermented wines to compete with the finest champagnes. Having no children to inherit the business, Giulio entrusted his legacy to local wineshop owner Bruno Lunelli in 1952. The Lunelli family has continued Giulio’s legacy till today, making high-quality Sparkling wines from their 100 hectares of certified organic vineyards within the region, as well as a networking of nearly 600 smallholdings owned by their vine-grower partners.
