Description

Ca’ dei Frati is the leading wine producer in Lugana, a wine area which lies on the southern shore of Lake Garda, astride the border of Lombardy and Veneto provinces, in Northeast Italy. They make distinctive wines from unique local grape varieties, that make a change from the ubiquitous Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and others! This is made from Turbiana, a local grape variety that gives peachy aromas and lovely flavour when made with care and not overcropped at harvest. Medium bodied with a refreshing, lemony palate and hint of richer apricot flavour too, a smooth, almost creamy texture.

Many of the wines from Lugana are made from Turbiana, which used to be known as Terbbiano di Lugano. They tend to be fairly bland, crisp white wines which are refreshing in summer but not necessarily the most flavourful. But, in careful hands such as those of Igino dal Cero at Ca’ dei Frati, who reduces the grape yields to obtain more concentration and fruit, they can be delicious. Ca’ dei Frati is widely considered to be the best producer here, and Brolettino their best vineyard. Ideal with poultry, pasta with white sauces and all types of fish. 13% ABV.
