French Wine

What is French wine?

Wine is fermented grape juice which contains alcoholic content and is a very popular beverage in many countries worldwide. Due to the process of creation, Wine could be made from any fruit, including cranberries and apples, but it is predominantly made from grapes.

France is one of the founding countries for wine, with its history dating back to the 6th century. Greek settlers in France created this wine in licensed regions of France. Vineyards were planted while Christianity was spread throughout the nation, and the history spans over 2600 years from the past.

Some of the best french wine comes from cities where the history is tremendous, such as Champagne and Bordeaux.  Although the French were not the first to make wine, they perfected the craft and produced some of the best wines. In France, wine represents knowledge and is commonly paired with different food variations depending on the desired flavour.

Wines like Trimbach Cuvee Frederic Emile Riesling, and Segia Margaux are available as a few examples. French wine regions

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is situated on the river Garonne, a Southwestern port city in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Bordeaux is known for its fruity, aromatic Red wines, although there are more white grapes in the vineyards of this city. One of the best wines from Bordeaux is Chateau de Fontenille Entre-deux-Mers Blanc 2020 HALF Bottle.

Burgundy

Burgundy is a region in Eastern France that is one of the country's most historic areas concerning wines. It is well-known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Burgundy is home to lots of famous flavours, also the home of Dijon Mustard, as Dijon is the capital location.

Loire Valley

Stretching across the river Loire from the city of Nantes to the Sancerre region is the Loire Valley. This valley is not a distinct wine region but contains multiple sub-regions, such as Anjou, Nantes, Saumur and Touraine. They are most well-known for creating dry white wines such as Domaine Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume.

Rhone and Provence

Rhone is a Southern French region sitting deep in the Rhone valley. They are known for the Chateauneuf-du-Pape collection of wines which contains 10 reds and 9 whites. Provence is known for its rose wines. One of the region’s highest red-dominant areas is Bandol, and at the other end of the spectrum is Cassis’ white wine dominance. One of our finest small bottles of red wine comes from Rhone is the Delas Cotes du Rhone L’Esprit 2019 Half Bottle.

Champagne

Champagne is one of the most well-known French wine regions, as the name is very popular to match the sparkling wine they create in the region. Champagne is a common alcoholic beverage for parties and fancy celebrations. We have a huge range of half bottle champagnes and full bottles to choose from.  The most popular champagne available at The Little Fine Wine Company is Billecart Salmon Brut Reserve Champagne Half Bottle  which is a fine bubbly and elegant drink.
