Description
This is a unique, flavoursome, elegant fine white made from 100% Turbiana, and produced by Ca’ dei Frati, one of the leading wine producers in Lugana. This even has enough weight to rival a good burgundy!
TASTING NOTE: Attractive pale gold colour. On the nose: It has tantalising aromas of peach, apple and pear, and a hint of vanilla spice from barrel ageing. It’s lovely and fresh, with a subtle floral/rose petal note too. On the palate: with relatively intense lemon, apricot, apple and peach notes, this is full and ripe with a smooth, almost creamy texture to round the finish that was helped by time in wooden barrels. It is well-balanced with medium acidity and alcohol. The emphasis is on finesse and pure fruit flavours. 13% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This wine is a perfect match with creamy pasta dishes such as linguine with a mushroom cream sauce, crab linguine or a delicate roast chicken. For vegetable dishes, a hearty butternut squash soup with Middle Eastern spices and roasted pumpkin seeds will also match wonderfully with this wine. It is a little fruitier and fuller than some of the crisper, lighter wines such as Pinot Grigio, for example, making it a full-flavoured, interesting aperitif too. Drink now or keep till Summer 2025 for a more honeyed, complex style.
ABOUT: Ca’ dei Frati is the leading wine producer in Lugana, on the southern shores of Lake Garda, near the town of Sirmione in northeast Italy. Their history dates back to 1782, although the current owners, the Dal Cero Family, moved there in the 1930s, recognising the potential for great quality wine. Ca’ dei Frati make beautiful and distinctive wines from unique, local grape varieties such as Turbiana. Brolettino is the name of their best vineyard, where grapes for this particular wine were grown.
