If South Africa made Chablis, this would be it! De Wetshof’s lovely Robertson, South Africa, Chardonnay is mouth-wateringly fresh, dry, crisp and like Chablis, a perfect match for seafood or poultry!
TASTING NOTE: An attractive pale-yellow colour. On the nose: Fresh and brimming with lemon and peach fruit character. This wine is not dissimilar in style to a Chablis or fine Macon Chardonnay from Burgundy with aromas of lemon, honeysuckle, ripe peach, and a touch of apricot. On the palate: It was aged on its fermentation lees which has given a beautiful, smooth texture it’s crisp, dry, and refreshing, medium in body not full with an almost creamy finish.13.5% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This will match perfectly with crab or other seafood dishes, both hot and cold, and poultry. It is also a great match with dishes like a grilled chicken Caesar salad, or seared salmon with fresh, green vegetables and grilled peppers. It also makes a good aperitif as it’s very crisp and dry. Drink now till Spring 2025.
ABOUT: The De Wet family are at the forefront of quality top white wines in the Robertson region of South Africa’s Western Cape province, where Danie de Wet and family were the first to register a wine estate in the 1970s. The estate is a well-known landmark in the region, producing impressive wines in its state-of-the-art winery. The buildings are based on the first custom house in Cape Town and are worth a visit if you are touring the Cape. Danie’s sons Johann De Wet and brother Peter now oversee the company.
