Description
Gigondas is one of our favourite Rhone Crus, with characterful wines grown in the hills and plains around Mont Ventoux, in the southeast of the Rhone Valley. The vineyards of Gigondas are split into two distinct areas: the plain and the Dentelles de Montmirail (the jagged foothills of Mont Ventoux), with the finest terroir to be found just between the two. It is there, mid slope, that vines for this wine grow, freshened by a current of cool air rising from the valley to the west of the village.
TASTING NOTE: There is a beautiful deep ruby-red colour. The nose is powerful and complex with notes of tobacco, cigars and leather. A blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, it’s ripe and fruity, with excellent balance of soft, silky tannins alongside the berry flavour, and a hint of wild rosemary and spice. 14.5% alcohol
FOOD PAIRING, SERVICE AND STORING: Serve at 16°C with a veal chop with morels or a crispy lamb breast. Enjoy now or cellar for a further three years.
