Blank Bottle Loskop Tinta Barroca 2020 HALF Bottle (37.5cl)

Description

For a refreshing change, this small batch wine is produced from the Tinta Barroca grape (a Portuguese grape) grown in the Swartland region, by Pieter Walser of Blank Bottle winery, whose wines each tell a story in their names and their bottles.

TASTING NOTE: A bright, almost purply-red colour. On the nose: Aromas of red/black fruits like blackberries and cherry, followed by floral/violet hints and a slight tilled earth note. On the palate: This is midweight rather than the full style of this warm area of South Africa. It has fine-textured tannins and fresh acidity. There are lingering notes of red berries, spice and liquorice which last on the deliciously fresh, long finish. 13% alcohol by volume.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: The wine is not quite as rich or fuller in body as some of the traditional South African reds, so it is a better match for stronger-flavoured chicken or pork. We would also suggest a match with a hearty vegetarian chilli. And for the final touch, try some freshly baked corn muffins on the side! Drink now or keep it until 2025.

ABOUT: Blank Bottle Winery is the brainchild of Pieter Walser. Pieter does not own any vineyards and buys grapes from various vineyards across the Western Cape. This allows him the ability to develop new wines each year, experimenting with grape blends, often with surprising (but always delicious!) results that challenge the conventions of ‘normal’ wines. Some wines are one-offs when he finds a good parcel of grapes, such as this Loskop (which was only bottled in half bottle). Where supply allows, he repeats wines that are particularly successful the following year.
