Description

For something slightly lighter, but no less intense in flavour, this Brouilly, from one of the best wines in the Beaujolais area, is perfect. Made from 100% Gamay, it’s extremely fruity and very smooth and juicy indeed. Low in tannin, moreish and versatile!

TASTING NOTE Rich ruby colour. On the nose: A refreshing mix of red and black fruits such as strawberry, raspberry, and red cherry are followed by blackberries. On the nose: Despite being so fruity, has a serious flavour concentration. It’s medium in body, fresh and full of flavour. It’s typically low in tannin, meaning a very smooth, almost silky texture and berry fruit, with a long juicy finish.12.5% alcohol by volume.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: We suggest pairing this with roast pork, or for later in the meal, either a good Brie or (given its fruity nature) a cherry clafoutis! Because it’s so versatile it can stretch across a meal, a little like Pinot Noir, or match a charcuterie and cheese board with ease. Drink now or keep till Summer 2025.

ABOUT: Maison Jean Loron has been growing vines in Beaujolais for over 300 years, after first making grapes in the Chenas vineyards of Beaujolais, not far from Brouilly. It is now under the stewardship of Philippe Bardet, a 9th generation descendant of Jean Loron, to make wine here. Brouilly is one of the 10 crus of Beaujolais, the most southerly. But Maison Loron makes many wines, not just this Brouilly, from humble Beaujolais to Fleurie (they own Chateau de Fleurie too) and red and white Burgundy, from the Burgundy region just to the north.
