Description

This 100% Nebbiolo is a blend of fruit from the vineyards of Gallina, Starderi and Ovello in the Barbaresco region of Piedmont, Northern Italy. Produced by Cantina del Pino, this is a powerful and full wine that is drinking great now and makes a perfect match with food.

TASTING NOTE: An attractive red colour with the tiniest hint of orange that suggests the Nebbiolo grape. On the nose: Typical complexity of great Barbaresco, opening with dark cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, orange peel, black pepper, spice and tobacco notes from two years aged in oak barrels. On the palate: Medium to full-bodied with plenty of ripe fruits like cherry, strawberries, and raspberry, all with silky tannins and fresh acidity that leaves a long-lasting flavour. 15% alcohol by volume.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This wine has plenty of spice and powerful fruit notes that will match wonderfully with cured or cooked meat dishes. Try this wine with our suggestion, a classic pork Saltimbocca (lightly fried pork cutlets with Parma ham, butter, sage, and wine sauce). This wine is perfect to enjoy now or can be aged further until 2026.

ABOUT: Classically trained musician and architect Franca Miretti manages the estate of Cantina del Pino after the passing of her winemaker husband Renato Vacca in 2020. The estate dates back to the 1920s when the Vacca family founded it. After studying winemaking and working in the Barbaresco region, Renato and Franca decided to develop their own project. With help from their parents and a small local team, the pair focused their attention on the cherished vineyards surrounding the Ovello hill, in Barbaresco.
