Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, Fixin Rouge 2020 HALF Bottle (37.5cl)

Red, Burgundy, France

In stock

This Pinot Noir from the village of Fixin in the Cote de Nuits, is a lovely deep ruby colour, with a smokey nose and plenty of red berries, cherry, and ripe plum aromas, followed by some lingering herb notes and spices like cinnamon and clove. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with gentle tannins and acidity. It carries more of the fruits and baking spices along with earthier notes and a hint of bitter chocolate, before a long, juicy, red-berry finish. Enjoy now until 2025. 14% ABV.

Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet is the combination of two family-run domaines, Domaine Berthaut in Fixin and Domaine Gerbet in Vosne-Romanee (owned by Amelie Berthaut’s father and mother respectively). Amelie now manages the estate with the help of her husband Nicolas. Their largest vineyard holding is in Fixin, as they have both ‘Villages’ level vineyards and Premier Crus there too. Fixin (pronounced Fissin) lies just south of Dijon (between Marsannay and Gevrey-Chambertin); while it is not quite as famous as Gevrey-Chambertin, it can make delicious wines either at ‘Village’ level or Premier Cru (it does not, unlike Gevrey, have any Grand Cru vineyards). The wine is from four different plots of vines in Fixin, some of which were planted all the way back in 1947.
