Description
A rich, approachable wine from the Alentejo region of Portugal, produced by Herdade de Esporao. It’s filled with dark fruit flavours and is great with grilled meats, but is soft and juicy enough to drink without food too.
TASTING NOTE: A deep rich red colour. On the nose: Black fruits, wild herbs and mint, plus subtle notes of fresh spices from time in barrel. On the palate: It’s intense and rich, with moderate acidity and full body. There is a solid tannin structure to support the fruit, but the texture is still smooth, with a long finish full of dark, ripe fruits and spice. 13.5%alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is a rich but approachable wine and is great enjoyed with herb-grilled chicken on the barbecue and a fresh garden salad, or alongside a simple platter of cured meats or veggie antipasti. Enjoy this now or it can keep until end of 2024.
ABOUT: Herdade de Esporao (or Esporao for short) is the name of the estate where Monte Velho is made. The vineyards are in the heart of Reguengos de Monsaraz, in the Alentejo region of Portugal. Esporao has been owned by the Roquette family since 1973 but the history of the estate goes back 700 years as its boundaries were first established in 1267. Today Esporao is one of the leading wineries in Portugal and they have over 400 hectares of vineyards, most of which are farmed organically.
