Description

Brunello is known as the prince of Montalcino wines, and it’s easy to see why. This is a benchmark Brunello Di Montalcino from Tenuta Il Poggione, made from 100% Sangiovese, with warm balanced flavours and silky tannins.

TASTING NOTE: A rich ruby colour in the glass. On the nose: Intense notes of ripe red fruits and a tantalising hint of cinnamon that lingers. It’s complex with nuances of spice and leather, plus tobacco too, all of which are typical of this unique style that spends 3 years in barrel. On the palate: Structured, flavourful, and juicy with plenty of fruit, such as cassis and blackberry, velvety tannins, and spices from 3 years in French oak barrel with plenty of generous ripeness across a bold finish.14.5% alcohol by volume.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is a bold yet balanced wine which pairs perfectly with simple tomato-based sauces, as well as classic dishes like Veal or Aubergine Parmigiana. Brunello di Montalcino is also a great match for a big and juicy steak off the grill with garlic butter, and summer herbs, accompanied by your favourite sides. wine to enjoy now (decant for an hour before serving) or keep until winter 2025.

ABOUT: Tenuta Il Poggione began in the 19th century when a Florentine landowner Lavinio Franceschi met a shepherd who had herded his sheep around the area of Montalcino. On hearing his tale, Lavinio visited Montalcino and fell in love with the area. He bought land there, established a farm and grew grapes. Over a century on, the work of Lavinio is continued by successors Leopoldo and Livia who have grown the winery. Winemaker Fabrizio Bindocci and son Alessandro completed the cellar and export team.
