In 1919 Marc Bredif took over his Uncle’s ancient winery in the heart of the Touraine region of the Loire Valley. This property had been one of the most famous Vouvray houses since the 1800’s. From these majestic cellars, his mission was to make unrivalled quality wines in the Loire and his reputation grew quickly; Marc Bredif Vouvrays are still seen today as a quality benchmark for the region. Baron Ladoucette took over the ownership of the house in 1980 which breathed new life in but retained the traditions.
Classic Vouvray from the Chenin Blanc grape variety, this is brimming with apple fruit character, a hint of beeswax and a rounded fruity, off-dry finish. Don’t let the off-dry finish fool you though! This is made to match a main meal, it’s apple notes meaning it would go with pork and creamy sauce or carbonara brilliantly (add a bit of the wine to the sauce for more depth too!) The Vouvray appellation is located in the Touraine region of the Middle Loire close to the town of Tours in France. Vouvray is devoted entirely to Chenin Blanc; one of the Loire Valley’s greatest white grapes. Vouvray can range from dry to very sweet but this example is off dry with beautiful balance and depth. The grapes were grown on gentle slopes with typical limestone, silica and sandy soil of Vouvray. The vineyard team handpicked the grapes, and after pneumatic pressing, only the free-run juice was fermented at 17 degrees Celsius, before the wine was matured in vats for nine months on the lees; there is no oak used. The cellar is famous for its troglodyte cellars that are dug deep in the local tuffeau/chalk soils which provide exceptional cold and humid conditions to store the wine in.
100% Chenin Blanc to give a lovely apple flavour and a hint of beeswax when this grape is grown in the Loire Valley. The aroma is attractive but delicate, giving way to a characterful, fruity palate, an off-dry finish and moderate 13% alcohol. Match with creamy pork or chicken dishes, or pastas with creamy sauces. 13% ABV.
