Description
This is a textbook, fine, mid-weight Californian Chardonnay from Schug Estate Winery in Carneros, it’s full of sunshine, and makes for a great match with heartier white meat dishes!
TASTING NOTE: It’s golden in colour. On the nose: Very fruity with lots of stone fruits and tropical fruit too, mango and even a tiny pineapple note. On the palate: It’s not heavy or cloying, as it has enough acidity and freshness underneath all the fruit and body with a lovely long, flavourful and fairly rich finish. 13.9% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This wine has good weight and makes a brilliant match with fuller chicken dishes that have some light smoke or char. Or, for a vegetarian option, a rocket salad with roasted butternut squash, nuts, seeds and fresh melon or peaches included. Enjoy chilled now or keep till 2025.
ABOUT: The Schug family are originally winemakers from Germany; their Californian estate was founded in 1980 after Claudia’s father Walter Schug worked as a winemaker at another renowned California estate, Joseph Phelps. While he was there, he learnt about the best vineyards in the area and armed with this knowledge, decided to establish his own business, specialising in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Claudia and her siblings Axel and Andrea now run the Schug estate. It’s an easy visit from San Francisco with stunning views!
