Description
This Bordeaux-style red blend from the Stellenbosch region has a deep, rich ruby colour in the glass, with a prominent and vibrant nose of cigar box spice, chocolate and cocoa powder, with plenty of ripe dark fruits. There are plum and blackberries from the Merlot plus blackcurrant and mint of the Cabernet Sauvignon in particular. The palate is bold and rich with generous tannins typical of these Bordeaux grapes (meaning this is a brilliant food match) and plenty more berry fruit character that has an almost never-ending juicy finish. This wine is a perfect match for those summer evenings, paired with food from the barbecue. Whether it’s grilled steak, lamb, or chicken, this is the wine for it! 14%ABV.
A fairly new producer from the Cape, the Laibach-Kuehner family purchased the 40-hectare estate in the Simonsberg part of Stellenbosch, in the early 1990s and began replanting on the site as well as building a state-of-the-art production facility and winery. The goal was to craft a modern, drinkable style wine that highlighted what the region could offer as well as becoming the first organic winery in the region as of the 2000s. Winemaker is Francois van Zyl; the estate has recently been purchased by renowned producer Kanonkop, so expect exciting things in future! see more at ladybirdvineyards.co.za
