Description
From the Soave region in Northeast Italy, just above Verona. Crafted mainly from the Garganega grape (at least 75% of the grape blend in Soave must be from Garganega) and blended with Trebbiano di Soave. It’s a refreshing and lively wine and is an excellent example of wine from this region, produced by Pieropan, one of the pioneering families there.
TASTING NOTE: Delicate light golden colour in the glass. On the nose: Aromas of zesty lime fruit, with some green apple and hints of almond too. It’s not an overstated or overly fruity wine on the nose, and is unoaked, but has a lovely citrus, elegant character. On the palate: It’s light to medium in body and filled with bright refreshing acidity. There is a sensation of more citrus fruits, such as grapefruit, lemon, and green apple. It’s dry and crisp on the finish. 12% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Pieropan suggests this is a great match for soups, vegetable starters that contain courgettes, or peas as well as egg-based dishes and seafood. We would suggest, with its zesty acidity, trying this with butter-poached seabass with green pea risotto. It’s a great wine for creamy pasta dishes such as carbonara too. This wine is best enjoyed now but can be kept until spring 2025.
ABOUT: The pioneering Pieropan family are based in the Soave vineyard area and has been since 1890, in northeast Italy, just above Verona. It’s hard to exaggerate the impact that brothers Andrea, Dario and their forebears have had here; they were the first to make wine using the name Soave, in the 1930s. They have pushed for better quality in an area of bland, bulk wines. All their wines are officially Organic, and they promoted the use of screwcaps to seal Soave wines, to keep wines fresher. They also make an Amarone and excellent single vineyard wines.
